We introduce a semiconductor theory based on a many‐body Hamiltonian to describe lasing from quantum dots embedded in optical microcavities. The light intensity and the photon autocorrelation function is calculated including semiconductor‐specific effects. Numerical results demonstrate the limitations of the often used atomic models.
